Clothing drives are more successful than other collection drives. The reason for
this is simple! Every home has clothing and textiles that are not being used.
If you drop flyers off well in advance of your collection date, residents have
more time to clean their closets. All types of good, usable textiles are acceptable.
Remember the more flyers you distribute, the more you collect and the more your
group will earn.
6 Steps Towards Cash !
- Create a Team
- Set a Financial Goal
- Choose a Collection Method
- Submit Application Form
- Contact the Public
- Exchange Clothing for Cash
1.
Create a Team
- Form a project committee of parents or volunteers.
- Choose a team leader.
- Assign responsibilities for each of the following steps.
2.
Set a Financial Goal
- Determine how much money you need to raise
- Figure out how many bags you will need to reach your goal
based on the current price we pay per pound, with a 30% return
from area canvassed.
3.
Choose a Collection Method
- Door-to-door collection is usually most effective, but requires more volunteers.
You will need to map out the area to be canvassed, which needs to be approved by
us before you can go ahead with your fundraiser. Determine the number of canvassers
needed.
- Friends & family is a popular substitute to door-to-door canvassing. For this
type of fundraiser you do not book an area to canvass, instead, you collect
donations solely through friends and family.
- Central drop-off collection can be used in combination with either door-to-door
or friends and family collection methods. This type uses a central drop-off site such
as a school, church or community centre instead of picking up the donations door-to-door.
More publicity is required, but fewer volunteers are needed.
4.
Submit Application Form
- Once you have determined what type of fundraiser you would
like to have the next step is to create your flyer. See our sample
flyer to get an idea of what information you need to have on your
flyer. At this point a rough draft is good enough, the text is the
important thing and will need to be submitted with your application
for approval.
- Now you are ready to fill out the application form. Make sure
all questions are answered and all pertinent information is included
before submitting your application to us.
5.
Contact the Public
- When your fundraiser has been approved it is time to put the word
out! Now is the time to print up your flyers ready for distribution.
- It is best to hand out bags with your flyers instead of expecting
people to use their own bags.
- Contact media sources such as newspaper, radio, and your community
television channel for free advertisements.
6.
Exchange Clothing for Cash
- When collection is completed, return bags of clothing to S.A.N.R.O.
for financial rewards.
- Make sure you book a drop-off appointment in advance to ensure you
can come in to drop off your donations when it is convenient for you.
Appointment times fill up quickly.
